Three consequences of learning about the International early childhood field were:
It has opened up my understanding of not only what is happening here in the United States but what is taking place all over the world when it comes to the early childhood field.
The issues and trends in early childhood are pretty much the same everywhere. Issues of poverty, equity, excellence etc.
I have also had a better understanding of reaching out and using resources beyond where we live. It's okay to e mail other people in other countries in your field to ask questions.
One goal for the field related to international awareness of issues and trends and the spirit of collegial relations would be to continue to converse with my new found international contact and talk about the different issues and trends that we experiance here in the United States compared to what they are going through in Cananda.
I definitely agree that the international information shared and discussed these past 8 weeks has been an eye-opening and insightful experience for me as I have learned a lot about what's going on around the country and around the world. It's amazing to consider what we have here in the USA compared to the conditions children and families are facing in developing nations. I think that your goal to continue to connect with international contacts is a terrific way to maintain communicate about what's happening in the early childhood field.

Johan, I liked how you stated that collaborating with others has helped you reach out. I feel the same way about my contacts and reviewing the websites. Early childhood professionals often have a wealth of inforamtion and insights but I think it is important to share those insights with each other to find more solutions. I also have a new understanding of how the problems are similar all over the world but different. I find it gratifying to have so many resources at my hand.
