Getting to know your international contacts
One of my international contacts is Margaret Fair an Early Childhood Professional from Canada. She is the president of The Canadian association for young children. I have spoken to her once and she agreed to hang with me these 8 weeks but she is really slow in her response so I had to do our alternative this week and go on the childhood poverty website. Three insights that I gained from the website were that China has made major strides in poverty reduction in recent years.  Much of the decline was due to far-reaching processes of economic and social transition. I also learned that 4.2 million chinese children live in absolute poverty and 8.7 million live in disadvantaged conditions. These numbers have declined over the 1990's. China is the worlds most populous country with a population of 1.27 billion in 2001. There are many changes being made when it comes to declining poverty but they are fairly small.

Jamie,
ReplyDeleteI had to do the altrnative assignment as well, due tothe fact of no response from 7 individuals that I emailed the very first week of class. However, I learned alot fo information about Mongolia and the issues that they have in their country.
It sounds like China is having some of the same issues that we are having here in America, due to the economy. I love how you jump right onto the alternative assignment instead of waiting to here from the person you contacted. Good luck throughout this course and your future!
Jamie,
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem with my contacts as well. I have experiences numerous return emails and currently waiting on information from a new contact. I also completed the alternative assignment focusing on Poverty in China. I also believe that little is done to reduce poverty in the outlying areas but this could change due to the major technology advances. I pray that we hear from your contacts soon! Great job on the post!
Jamie,
ReplyDeleteI ran into some of the same problems. I have one contact who was quick to respond and another that is a slower to respond. One of my contacts is from Costa Rica and she stated that Costa Rica has also reduced poverty through economic and social transitions. Major improvements in medical and educational services she believes have contributed greatly.
